So where do we draw the line?
It's clear that writing off all screen use as harmful doesn’t reflect the full picture. Yes, concerns over screens replacing real-world interaction and the negative, sometimes devastating, consequences regarding unrestricted use are not without merit and shouldn't be ignored, but not all internet use is equal. When used with intention, screens can support learning, spark curiosity, and even help people feel more connected. The conversation shouldn’t just be about how much time kids (or anyone) spend in front of screens, but what that time looks like. Focusing on balance and quality, rather than potential ramifications, can allow screens to play a meaningful role in supporting healthy development and daily welfare. As technology advances, research methods must also adapt to promote safer use and effective solutions for the largest concern—media abuse.
